Joseph was born on October 2nd, 1919.  Joseph's father was George Frederick Maartens and his mother was Josephina Johanna Fourie.  His paternal grandparents were George Frederick Mathom and Anna Christina Small (Francina). He had two brothers named George and George.  He died at the age of 72 on February 23rd, 1992.  He was buried in Namibia, OKAHANDJA, Main cemetery.
