Edward  was born in February 1888.  Edward 's father was August Charles Hendrick Martens and his mother was Louisa Francis. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Alfred, George , Augustus, Harry, Jack, Ivy, May and Elsie.  He died at the age of 41 on December 20th, 1929 in Addington Hospital, Durban.
