Dawid, known as Oom Dawid, was born on November 8th, 1903 in Heidelberg Tvl. Oom Dawid's father was Jacobus Marthinus Martins and his mother was Wilhelmina Jacoba Devina van den Berg. His paternal grandparents were Jan (Oom Thomas) Thomas Martins and Elizabeth (Meraai) Jacoba Margaretha van Wyk. He had seven brothers and six sisters, named Oom Tommie, Oom Ben, Oom Koos, Willem, Zeeberg, Oom Jeff, Oom Fransie, Tannie Sara, Elizabeth, Tannie Ina, Tannie Martha, Tannie Miemie and Tannie Poppie. He was the sixth oldest of the fourteen children. He died at the age of 58 on April 24th, 1962 in Catholic Hospital, Windhoek.General Notes
