Herman Engelbertus Martins 
Herman was born on March 13th, 1915 in Volksrust. Herman's father was Pieter (Piet or Paal) van der Merwe Martins and his mother was Hendriena Susanna Johanna du Preez. His paternal grandparents were Petrus (Oom Piet) Jacobus Martins and Hester Catharina Cornelia van der Merwe. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Petra, Theo, Roelf, Esther and Alida. He was the third oldest of the six children. He died due to natural causes or old age at the age of 85 on July 30th, 2000 in Pretoria.General Notes

Peter's son Herman made his mark in the world and first became Member of Parliament for Wakkerstroom, and later South African Consul-General in New Orleans. He married President Swart's daughter, and was a pall-bearer at
