Rachel Catharina Ries(e) 
Rachel was born on December 19th, 1888 and her baptism took place on December 13th, 1890. Rachel's father was Jan Thomas Ries(e) and her mother was Rachel Catharina Lourens. Her paternal grandparents were Johann Heinrich Ries and Martha Elizabeth Johanna Martens. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Johann, Jan, Cornelius, Napoleon, Cornelis, Martha, Anna and Maria. She was the oldest of the nine children.-
