Jean was born in 1676 in Brie, Champagne, France, Chateaux Thierry.  Jean's father was Isaac Taillefer and his mother was Susanna Briet. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Jean-Isaac, Pierre, "Isabeau de Villiers.", Susanne and Marie.  He was the second oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 23 in 1699.
