On his marriage certificate he is Phillip Henry Turpin aged 26 which gives his birth date as 1844. He is also descibed as a schoolmaster but could possibly have become a missionary. The difference in names and DOB cannot be explained. Doubtful if that two Turpins could hgave married on the same date to two girls with same names although spelling on marriage certificate is Maartens. Emily Charlotte Cloete Turpin told the family she was on the wagons given a free pass through one of the battles in 1879 by Cetewayo - she would have been about 3 years old and been with, I presume, her mother Annie Margritta Martens.

At death her address was ; St. Lukes Mission, Engabeni, Alfred division, Natal.
