Lily was born on July 29th, 1854 in Natal.  Lily's father was John (Mashibana) William Houston McMillan and her mother was Sarah A Sykes.  Her paternal grandparents were John Houston McMillan and Mary McIntyre. She had ten brothers and a sister, named John, David, Doyi or Doy, Duncan, Hugh, Gilbert, Richard, Alexander, Kenneth, Macintyre, Arthur and Dora.  She was the third oldest of the twelve children.  She died at the age of 98 in 1952.
