David Daniel Maartens 
David was born on July 15th, 1861. David's father was David Schalk Maartens and his mother was Susanna Maria Fourie. His paternal grandparents were Joachim Hendrik Maartens and Martha Margaretha Maria Joubert; his maternal grandparents were David Daniel Fourie and Anna Elizabeth de Klerk. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Joachim, Francois, nn, Paulus, Andreas, Johannes, Anna, Martha, Susanna and Maria. He was the second oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 49 on August 25th, 1910 in in his house on "Diepfontein", Bloemfontein dist..General Notes
