Jacobus was born on August 1st, 1897 in "Oithona", Dist. Elliot. Jacobus' father was Johannes Lodewicus Maartens and his mother was Emma Sophia Grey Woodward. His paternal grandparents were Johannes Lodewicus Maartens and Elizabeth Johanna Antoinette Beukes; his maternal grandparents were John Grey Woodward and Elizabeth Catherine Cronk. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Johannes, John, Elizabeth, Elisabeth, Emma, Elsje, Annie and Maartje. He died due to a medical problem, Measles and Bronchitis, at the age of 3 on November 7th, 1900 in Farm Aithona, Dist. Elliot. He was buried in Farm Aithona, Dist. Elliot.General Notes
