Her paternal grandparents were Gert Lukas Martens and Cornelia Johanna Swanepoel (Philippina); her maternal grandparents were Wilhelm Johan Terblanche and Margaret Emily Terblanche. She had two sisters named Cornelia and Sophia. She was the oldest of the three children. She had a half-brother named Gert. She died about 1994.-
