  Farmed on Highbury when he got married.
  According to his grandson he also farmed on Broedershoek.

  Have letter from grand daughter where she expresses her sorrow that he sold his farm as they would have liked to move to the farm.

  Tell story abt the pig that went missing and was found birthing inside a pumpkin.
  Tell story abt lion hunt where lion was too close and he he missed. Practised short shots only to find lion practsing short jumps.
  Another story was that whilst he was dipping cattle the government inspector arrived and told hiim that the dip mixture was not strong enough. he agreed to increase the strength on condition that if it was too strong, he would chuck the inspector into the dip. The story would not have been told if, after the cattle emerged with burn spots, the inspector was chucked in and left the farm dripping wet.
  He loved cowboy books and after reading them claimed their as his own experiences.
  His nickname amongst the Zulu was "Maboelalashlega" aparently meaning "he laughs while he kills". According to stories handed down he was a cruel man. One story tells how he caught one of his sheepherders killing a sheep with a long needle (so that the cause of death could not be found). He gave the man a hiding with a shambok and then hung him upside down. He then called the police to say that he had killed the man, but the man had not died. On another occasion he was attacked by a worker in the kraal and then tied the man to a wagon wheel and whipped him as the wheel was turned. According to legend this man became so loyal to him that when they moved to Johannesburg to retire (as result of asthma attacks) this man followed him.
  Another story attibuted to him was when, on their way to church, the hymn book had faled from the wagon. Upon their return they found a troop of baboons lustily singing from the book.
