Hendrik (Oom Merwie) Jacobus Van der Merwe Martens 
Hendrik , known as Oom Merwie, was born on March 27th, 1920. Oom Merwie's father was Gert Lukas Martens and his mother was Susanna Elisabeth Pretorius. His paternal grandparents were Hendrik Jacobus van der Merwe Martens and Anna Maria Isabella Martens; his maternal grandparents were Jacobus Francois Pretorius and Anna Catharina Jordaan. He had a sister named Rina. He was the younger of the two children. He died due to a cardiac arrest at the age of 65 on March 1st, 1986 in Scottburg.General Notes
I found that Steffen and Carol were both students in 1986 and living at 5 Savell Place, Scottburgh South, Scottburgh
Oom Merwie was a Landros and lived in Amanzimtoti when I saw him around 1984. Remember a curry chicken Dad and I had with him accompanied by a very hot sauce. I put on too much of it and suffered the whole meal. (sic, my own comment).
When he married Johanna van der Merwe he was a soldier.
His family has his birth date as 16 Jul 1920.
