Elizabeth Maria Maartens 
Elizabeth was born about 1800 in Graaff Reinet and her baptism took place there on September 28th, 1800. Elizabeth's father was Joachim Hendrik Martens and her mother was Hendrina Magdalena van der Merwe. Her paternal grandparents were Joachim Heinrich Martens and Jacomina van den Berg; her maternal grandparents were David Schalk van der Merwe and Anna Maria Pretorius. She had seven brothers and six sisters, named Joachim, Dawid, Paulus, Johannes, Willem, Nicolaas, Daniel, Anna, Jacomina, Hendriena, Hester, Aletta and Martha. She was the sixth youngest of the fourteen children. She died on April 30th, 1866 in Graaff Reinet.General Notes
