Elizabeth was born on November 11th, 1821 in Graaff Reinet and her baptism took place there on December 26th, 1821.

Birth Notes

Elizabeth's father was Joachim Hendrik Martens and her mother was Louisa Maria Grobbelaar. Her paternal grandparents were Matthÿs Daniel Martens and Susanna Haarhof; her maternal grandparents were Johannes Jacobus Grobbelaar and Elizabeth Margaretha van Jaarsveld. She had nine brothers and three sisters, named Matthys, Johannes, Hendrik, Albertus, Paulus, Choert, Willem Golden Fleece, Petrus, Nicolaas, Susanna, Louisa and Susanna. She was the oldest of the thirteen children. She died at the age of 32 on July 6th, 1854 in "Brakrivier", Middelburg, Cape of Good Hope.
