Hendrik Jacobus Martens 
Hendrik was born on December 9th, 1878 in Rouxville and his baptism took place there on January 31st, 1879. Hendrik's father was Gert Lukas Martens and his mother was Cornelia Johanna Swanepoel (Philippina). His maternal grandparents were Philippus Johannes Swanepoel (Cornelius) and Cornelia Johanna Gouws. He had six brothers and two sisters, named Hendrick, Philippus, Gert, Charles , Johan, Thomas , Cornelia and Elizabeth. He was the fifth oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 56 on January 18th, 1935 in Far East Rand Hospital. He was buried in Brenthurst Cemetary, Brakpan.General Notes
