Jacomina was born on August 12th, 1827. Jacomina's father was Willem Pieter Grobbelaar and her mother was Hendrina Magdalena Jansen van Rensburg. Her paternal grandparents were Johannes Jacobus Grobbelaar and Elizabeth Margaretha van Jaarsveld; her maternal grandparents were Hendrik Petrus Jansen van Rensburg and Jacomina Jacoba Martens. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Hendrik, Willem, Elizabeth, Elsie and Hendrina. She was the oldest of the six children.-
